Hi Dan! I would be interested to hear your thoughts on the pace of life for the average high school student (and teacher, haha). It seems as though one of the consequences of this breakneck pace (school, work, homework, sports, clubs, plays, etc. etc. etc.) is that God takes a back seat in our lives. My wife mentioned the other day that she literally can’t afford to take a Sabbath or she’ll fall behind. Clearly the speed at which our culture is moving is unhealthy and costly. How can/should a Christian school be different? What does this look like? Is it even possible? How can teachers model rest/Sabbath if we have increasing demands upon us as well? Thanks!

Bryant,
Thanks for writing and for your thoughtful suggestion of a pertinent topic! I addressed the topic in 2010 – Redeeming time and previously in 2008 – Down with busyness, up with meaningful engagement – and actually gave some suggestions at the end of the post. Anyway, just in case you hadn’t found those – I thought you might enjoy them. I really like the good questions you are raising- maybe we could collaborate on a piece addressing those questions – they are very real and I can sense that many other teachers are raising them also.
