What is a blog? Specifically the word blog is a shortened word made from two other words – web and log. A blog, short for web-log, is a website where there are short entries, as one would make in a journal or diary, that comment on a particular topic—in this case, nurturing students’ faith through Christian education. Blog entries appear in reverse chronological order and combine text, images, links to other blogs, websites, and resources. Comments can be posted by readers and ideas shared in an immediate way that opens up communication and allows for building on ideas together. The Nurturing Faith blog will be a gathering spot for all those around the world who may be interested in the topic, free of charge.

“Excellence” is overused in our Mission and Vision statements. We have a hard time figuring out just what it is. Some of us have one idea of what it looks like and others have another opinion. What is “excellence?” How do we know when we have achieved excellence? How do we help our children to discern that which is excellent?
Does excellence mean perfection? We will never attain that. We live in a fallen world and are sinners. Our best efforts will not gain us perfection.
Is excellence a goal? Is this something we are striving for? We may be setting a wrong goal. We may be seeking something that has no value in itself.
When I look at a flower I see the color, size, the variety, etc. I even see the imperfections and sometimes those imperfection enhance the quality and uniqueness of that flower. So perfection may not be what we really seek.
So again what is excellence?
